FAQs
What are some fun Halloween treats?
- These easy recipes make the perfect Halloween treats! Kids love our Halloween Oreo cookies and Monster Munch. For a more adult party, serve up a delicious sharable dessert with our S’Mores in the Oven platter.
Why do we celebrate Halloween?
- Originally, Halloween had either Celtic pagan or early Christian roots. The Celtic Gaels celebrated the festival of Samhain from October 31 to November 1.
- It marked the end of the harvest season, but also the day spirits or souls could come into this world. People often went door to door in costumes (perhaps to disguise themselves from spirits), and received food after reciting verses.
- In early Christianity, All Saints Day or All Hallows Day was celebrated on November 1. The night before was known as “Hallows Eve” and marked the beginning of celebrations and feasting.
- These two holidays probably influenced each other over the years, eventually merging and becoming the Halloween we know marked with costumes, parties, Oreo pumpkins, trick-or-treaters, and candy eyeballs!
- piping bag or squeeze bottle
- baking sheet (to contain the sprinkles, no baking here)
Halloween Oreos
Ingredients for Halloween Oreos:
- Fudge Covered Oreos
- Wilton orange candy melts
- Wilton Halloween sprinkles
- Wilton Halloween icing decorations – we used Black Cat, Ghost with Candy Corn, and pumpkin
Directions for easy Halloween Oreo Cookies with spooky designs:
1. Heat orange candy melts in the microwave for 45 seconds, then stir. Heat the candy melts for an additional 30 seconds, stir, and continue with 30-second intervals until they make a smooth, pipeable liquid similar to the consistency of melted chocolate.
2. With the Fudge Covered Oreos still in their tray, pipe the candy coating around the middle where you’d normally see the Oreo cream. Gently rotate the Oreos as the orange starts to set to make a full ring. Then quickly douse them in sprinkles, again, rotating the Oreos as you go. Let sit for a minute or two.
3. Remove the cookies from the packaging and pipe a little dot onto each one, sticking a cute Wilton icing decoration on top of each dot.
4. Arrange them on a serving plate or tray, decorating with festive props, scattered candy corn and sprinkles.
Variations and substitutions:
- If you love the more unusual Oreo flavors, go ahead and use your favorite Oreo instead.
- Have oh so much fun with different candies and sprinkles!
- Candy eyes, Halloween Reese’s, candy corn, shaped sprinkles, edible glitter, cotton candy cobwebs, chocolate chips, and really any purple, orange, or green candy can make great additions!
Tips and Tricks for our Halloween Oreos:
- If your candy melts don’t melt into the perfect texture, mix in a little coconut oil or canola oil until completely smooth and creamy. If you overheat the candy melts, just start over. It sucks, but candy coating is totally inedible if burned.
- Serve right away or make these up to 2 days in advance. They’re still good after several days, but they do start to harden. Store on wax paper or parchment paper in an airtight container to help preserve their texture.
I love this recipe because it is super fast and cute. We totally removed the need to make your own dipped Oreos, but maintained that additional, creamy milk chocolate flavor. The biggest plus? You don’t need exceptional piping skills to make really festive and fun Halloween treats.
You’ll love seeing the kids delight in your adorable creations almost as much as you’ll love saving yourself a ton of cleanup time! I tossed the piping bag and loose sprinkles, then washed the candy melts bowl and spoon, all in about a minute. Yes!
