Candy ideas for candy kabobs:
- Haribo Berries
- Sour Strips Double Berry
- Skittles Gummies
- Swedish Fish
- m&ms (red and blue)
- Hershey’s Kisses (patriotic)
- Jet Puff S’mores Marshmallows (they are large and flat)

(I found a lot of these candies at Five Below and at Target)
Directions on how to make the perfect candy skewer:
1. For best results, soak skewers in water for five minutes, or until no dry spots remain, so the candies don’t snag and drag stickiness all over them. Quickly pat the excess water off, but do not allow it to dry.
2. Before hand, lay out candies in the design of your choice. This will give you an idea of the process you will use and help to keep your thoughts organized.
3. You’ll want to poke the bamboo skewer through the thickest part of the candy then slide into place. Leave room at the bottom of the stick so guests can hold them without getting sticky fingers.
For the Marshmallow Stars, dip the star cookie cutter into powdered sugar and press it into the flat S’mores marshmallow.
For the decorated marshmallow, dip the top 1/3 of the regular marshmallows into melted white chocolate. Sprinkle with red, white, and blue Wilton sprinkles. Let the candy melts harden before skewering.
Variations and substitutions:
Most gummy candies work great on a wooden skewer or bamboo skewer! Try sour belts, gummy ribbons, gummy bears, gummy sharks, Skittles gummies, Lifesavers gummies, Swedish Fish, Jolly Rancher gummies, Sour Patch Kids, Dots, Twizzlers…
The only problem with these sweet candy kabobs is deciding which sweet treats to stack!
Arrange your candy sticks in a cute vase filled with red, white and blue candies like M&M’s for an adorable patriotic themed candy bouquet.
Tips and Tricks for making Candy Kabobs:
- We like 10-inch bamboo skewers, but you can use whatever size you have on hand, and wooden skewers work as well. Avoid smaller smoochy candy, bigger – firmer candies work best.
- Some candies, like Peeps, may leave some residue. A damp paper towel can be used to wipe them clean.
- Chocolate candies tend to be messy. They might look great, but you’ve been warned.
