These Toll House Cookie Bars are a delicious twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Equipment Needed:

  • A mixing bowl or stand mixer: large enough to combine all your ingredients.

  • Small bowl: to mix together the dry ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, or lightly coat your preferred pan with nonstick cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer or hand mixer,  combine the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the room temperature eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, and then mix in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet batter, mixing until just combined. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan.  For chewy cookie bars with a perfect texture, do not spread it too thin or overwork the dough.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.

Please note that if you use a darker pan, the bars may cook faster, so check them about the 20 minute mark and adjust as needed.
